Jiangsu Provincial Engineering Research Center for Oral Translational Medicine

Founded in December 2019, the center is part of the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. It is dedicated to addressing critical issues in Jiangsu Province's translational medicine in stomatology, including core technology breakthroughs, enhancing industrialization levels, and addressing shortages of high-level talent. By leveraging its public platform role and technological radiating effects, the center aims to drive R&D innovation in translational medicine and related fields, thereby improving the technological R&D capabilities and talent cultivation of engineering laboratories to better serve China's translational medicine industry.

To date, the engineering research center is staffed with 20 permanent Principal Investigators (PIs) and 5 full-time technical specialists. The total investment in platform construction amounts to 20 million yuan, with R&D facilities spanning 1,500 m². It is equipped with advanced instruments such as a scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, rotational rheometer, and nanosizer and Zeta potential analyzer. The center features four major R&D platforms: the Oral Tissue Engineering and Regeneration R&D Platform, the Digital Diagnostic and Treatment Technology R&D Platform for Dentofacial Conditions, the Oral Biomaterials Engineering Technology R&D Platform, and the Evaluation and Clinical Trials Platform for Oral Diagnostic and Treatment Technologies. These platforms focus on key issues in Jiangsu Province's oral medicine translational industry development, such as insufficient collaborative innovation capabilities and low technology transfer efficiency. They target the urgent needs of translational medicine technologies and strive to overcome key technologies in oral translational medicine.

Adhering to the guiding principle of "prioritizing collaborative innovation, enhancing original innovation, and deepening integrated innovation," the center starts from the actual clinical needs in dentistry, and focuses on the research and development of key materials, technologies, and equipment in the field of oral medicine, leading the advancement of dental technology. It is committed to establishing itself as an engineering laboratory platform that integrates technological R&D, transformation of scientific achievements, as well as technology transfer and dissemination, and aims to be capable of undertaking major research projects while possessing core competitiveness and significant influence in the global field of oral medicine.
