The oral medicine program at Nanjing Medical University was established in 1974, making it one of the earlier programs after the five major oral medicine colleges such as Sichuan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The affiliated School of Stomatology is the second institution for oral medicine education in East China. Over its 50-year legacy, the program has built a profound educational foundation. Recognized as a national first-class undergraduate program, a specialized characteristic program in higher education, and a brand key program in Jiangsu Province, it houses a postdoctoral research station in Stomatology and holds authority to confer both the Ph.D. degree (academic and professional) in the primary discipline.

The program is dedicated to cultivating highly competent dental professionals through a multi-tiered training system covering the entire career lifecycle. It has established a domestically leading and internationally advanced Digital Virtual Simulation Teaching Center for Stomatology, launched an online portal for virtual simulation resources, and co-founded the Dental Education Cloud Alliance with peer institutions to promote resource sharing.
