From July 8th to 11th, our hospital successfully hosted the 2024 International Course "Healthy Mouth for Healthy Body". Professor Philip Preshaw, Dean of the School of Dentistry at the University of Dundee (UoD), UK, and President of the British Society of Periodontology, and Associate Professor Sze-Yung Yuen from the UoD School of Dentistry were invited to deliver the course. Professor Xu Yan, Party Secretary of our hospital, and Professor Yan Bin, Dean, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The ceremony was chaired by Professor Jiang Hongbing, Vice President. Undergraduate students from the Class of 2020, along with postgraduate students from the Classes of 2022 and 2023, participated in this course.

During the four-day course, Professor Preshaw, leveraging his profound expertise, shared insights on the impact of oral health on systemic health, with a particular focus on the complex links between obesity, diabetes, and periodontitis. Associate Professor Yuen provided vivid and in-depth analysis of dentist-patient communication skills through methods such as role-playing, team discussions, and collaborative exercises. Students actively participated in classroom exchanges and interactive discussions with the instructors, gaining substantial knowledge.

During the course period, Professor Preshaw and his delegation visited the Digital Experimental Teaching Center for Stomatology at Nanjing Medical University.
The offering of this international course represents one of our hospital's significant steps in deepening educational reform. It provides faculty and students with valuable opportunities to understand global education systems, advanced teaching methodologies, and learning models. The course has greatly enriched and enhanced the content of stomatology education, serving as a beneficial supplement to classroom teaching and an effective assurance of academic education quality. It plays a positive role in improving the quality of talent cultivation and enhancing the internationalization level of our faculty. The school will continue to actively explore and implement more accessible pathways for students to benefit from international courses, aiming to reach more students in the stomatology program and further elevate the course's influence.
