Stomatological College of Nanjing Medical University Holds Its First Alumni Day

On May 20th, the firstl "Alumni Day" of our school (hospital) was held in the lecture hall on the first floor of the Science and Education Building. Under the theme "The Bonds of Time, Everlasting Friendships," the event invited representatives from alumni classes across decades to return to campus and join faculty and students in reminiscing about the past and envisioning the future.

Alumni Lecture Series (10:00 AM)
Hosted by Vice President Yuan Hua, the Alumni Lecture Series commenced in the lecture hall.

Vice President Yu Jinhua delivered an opening address. He stated that alumni are the school's invaluable assets and crucial witnesses and drivers of its development. He hoped the lecture series would become a platform for intellectual exchange, an emotional bond, and a means to unite alumni, ensuring the inheritance and innovation of the university motto "Erudition Leads to Excellence, Virtue Leads to Perfection" and the school motto "Respect for People and Profession, Pursuit of Excellence and Sincerity."

Alumnus Dr. Meng Jian (Class of 1984) presented a lecture titled "Learning Knows No Bounds, Integrity Stands Tall." Drawing on over 30 years of medical practice, he elaborated on the professional qualities required of physicians in the new era from three dimensions: compassion, responsibility, and technological innovation. He emphasized that an excellent doctor must possess not only superb medical skills but also profound humanistic care, achieving both moral integrity and professional excellence.

Alumnus Dr. Jiang Xinquan (Class of 1989) gave an academic lecture on "Application of Biomimetic Strategies in Oral and Maxillofacial Tissue Regeneration." He systematically introduced his team's latest research achievements in oral tissue regeneration, explaining the breakthrough applications of biomimetic materials in oral rehabilitation. He pointed out that the integration of new technologies like 3D printing and artificial intelligence presents unprecedented opportunities in the field of oral tissue regeneration.

Inaugural Alumni Day Launch Ceremony (2:00 PM)
Hosted by Dean Yan Bin, the official launch ceremony began.

Party Secretary Xu Yan warmly welcomed the alumni. She highlighted that alumni support and contributions are vital driving forces for the school's progress and the solid foundation for its growth. She expressed her hope that alumni would continue supporting the school's construction and development and often "come home."

Academician Cunyu Wang (Class of 1980) delivered a heartfelt speech. He fondly recalled his memorable student days at his alma mater and his youth spent at the NMU School of Stomatology. He shared his deep connection to NMU, stating his immense pride in the university no matter where he is. He pledged continued support and contributions to the school's high-quality development.

Vice President Yue Guofeng reviewed the university's history and evolution. He introduced NMU's educational philosophy and positioning, campus facilities, key development milestones, faculty/student profiles and programs, social reputation, discipline construction, education and teaching, admissions and employment, talent development, scientific research, cooperation and exchange, clinical enhancement, social services, and the Changzhou campus construction. He showcased the university's fruitful achievements in high-quality development in recent years and encouraged alumni to continue upholding the university motto, walking alongside their alma mater with shared aspirations.

Subsequently, Academician Wang, Vice President Yue, school leaders, and alumni representatives jointly illuminated the launch screen, officially heralding the arrival of the school's inaugural Alumni Day.

Ms. Yin Yufen, representing donating alumni, and Mr. Zhou Yi, representing newly appointed alumni liaisons, spoke. They expressed gratitude for the school's and teachers' cultivation, shared their desire to give back, and pledged to actively serve as bridges, mobilizing more alumni to contribute to the school's development.

Special Commemorations and Recognitions

Marking the 50th anniversary of the Class of 1975's enrollment, 19 alumni from this class and their former counselor, Teacher Wang Xinhua, specially returned to campus. They donated meticulously created calligraphy and paintings to the school, expressing their deep affection and best wishes. Alumni representatives Teacher Gong Benlin and Teacher Li Jian presented the artworks and shared their creative stories, moving everyone present.

Recognizing the indispensable support of alumni, many classes made generous donations to support the school's endeavors. Professor Zhang Xiaona, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President, and Vice President Pan Yongchu presented donation certificates to the alumni representatives, thanking them for their support.

To further strengthen ties between the school and its alumni, 25 new class-based alumni liaisons were appointed, supplementating the existing year-level liaisons. Ms. Shi Danni, Deputy Secretary-General of the Alumni Association, and Alumnus Dr. Ji Jun, presented appointment letters to the new liaison representatives.

As the event drew to a close, alumni gathered for a group photo in the "Garden of Affection" .

Alumni toured the Science and Education Building. The state-of-the-art laboratories and advanced teaching equipment evoked deep emotions. They paused to reminisce about their student days, marveling at the school's remarkable progress.

The Class of 1975 held a symposium and exchange activities on the Wutai campus.

The inaugural Alumni Day was not just a warm reunion but also a powerful gathering of strength. The achievements and generosity of the alumni have infused the school with new vitality for development. Our school will take this event as an opportunity to continuously deepen alumni engagement mechanisms and build collaborative platforms, joining hands with alumni to create new glories together!
